It has been a while since i have updated the site and i am presently in the midst of finding an appropriate New Zealander to manage the content of this website, updating, sprucing up and generally giving it a good spring clean.

ETTC are now residing in Wellington NZ! A big move for us, but we hope that it is one that proves to be fruitful in terms of the theatrical scene here, which i can tell you, is flourishing with a great deal of talent and interesting productions.

I have been trying to do the show ‘Misery’ for numerous years now, and i am inquiring into obtaining the rights to stage it early next year. As soon as i find out, i will let you know.

If anyone has any questions, advice or comments they would like to furnish me with, please get in touch.

Be back in touch soon with more updates.

Warm regards,

Emotional Tramps are moving to New Zealand in July this year, so we will be temporarily off line whist changing service provider. When we come back we will be established in a new climate and will be working with new performers on new projects.

We are excited about this move and the opportunity to create theatre in a new environment, which we hope will create a new insight into performing and learning from a new culture.

We want to thank everyone who has supported us in the UK, and we hope you continue to follow us on Twitter and also on Facebook.

Hope to see you all again soon.

I am almost at the end of my 4th year honors degree at QMU in Edinburgh. Part of my directing specialism is to create/work on a piece of theatre for performance. I chose to explore Vulnerability as a concept, and use this as a starting point for the performers, musician and writer who are all collaborating on this project with me. The brief was simple, create a 30 min piece of theatre that will run for three days at The Roxy Art House, Edinburgh.
Collaborating on this project are Leanne Foxwell, a 2nd year DTA student at QMU and Craig Mcewan an actor currently undertaking a course at RSAMD. They will both be performing at The Roxy and so far their input has been valuable. Alan Gordon, a graduate of QMU and currently in the BBC finals for new writing is scripting the piece based on the rehearsal process and Jim Harbourne, another QMU graduate who is an exquisite musician and composer is creating an original score for the piece. As director/project co-ordinator my job is to encourage, support and push the process along by creating rehearsal schedules to work with and documenting the process, which is then in turn handed over to Alan, where he creates scenes/moments for the actors to explore in the following rehearsals

To date there has been 3 rehearsals and with 2 weeks to go, the process is moving along nicely. I was slightly nervous about creating this work as my usual comfort zone, theatrically, is text based. The idea of using one word as a starting point was initially a daunting prospect, but as the idea and the process developed and altered over the past few months, the idea of starting to create a unique and original piece of theatre became more encapsulating.I hope that the piece is a success and that the creative team attached to the project enjoy the experience. I am pleased to be working with them all and i hope that i have the privilege of working with them all again one day.

On March the 24th, 25th and 26th at The Roxy Art House, Edinburgh Tim C Yarrow will be directing a devised piece of theatre about vulnerability. Working with two performers, one musician and a writer they will explore this process together for two weeks, merging text, music, movement, emotion and multimedia together to form a coherent show for an awaiting audience. The process originates from a starting point, as all good ideas do and has merged and changed rapidly over the last two months.’The idea of vulnerability and what makes us vulnerable, inspired me to create this piece of theatre’ says Tim, ‘I want to find a way of connecting our lives together through vulnerable moments and connecting those moments to the audience’.This piece of theatre will be showing on the above dates and should not be missed. Times TBA.

Emotional Tramps is collaborating with Mechanical Sheep Productions on a Television Pilot written and directed by Sam Robertson. The story revolves around James, a writer famous for his detective novels who explores the dark and mysterious worlds of cultism. His obsession with the occult takes an interesting and dangerous path when the fiction starts to become fact, leading James into a world full of deception, trickery and elaborate conspiracies.

With filming due to take place late November 2009 this is an exciting and interesting project for ETTC to be involved with.

It has been a while since i updated the site. I have no excuses..well actually i do! Where to begin? Last November my children emigrated to NZ with my ex wife and her new husband, that was a very difficult time and on top of that i was at University writing essays etc. At the same time i was ‘advised’ by my directing lecturer “not to do anything outside of university, as 3rd year is very crazy”. She was right, to a point! The problem with not doing anything ‘theatrical’ outside of 3rd year has left me feeling slightly empty and also neglected anyone who followed or is following ETTC. For that i apologise.

In the pipeline this summer i am hoping to obtain the rights for a Jean Paul Satre play called ‘No Exit’. Here is a brief synopsis:

The play begins with the Valet leading a man named Garcin into a room that the audience soon realizes is in hell (hell may be a gigantic hotel, in light of the “rooms and passages” mentioned in the play). The room has no windows, no mirrors, and only one door. Eventually Garcin is joined by Inez, and then another woman, Estelle. After their entry, the Valet leaves and the door is shut and locked. All expect to be tortured, but no torturer arrives. Instead, they realize they are there to torture each other, which they do effectively, by probing each other’s sins, desires, and unpleasant memories. At first, the three see events concerning themselves that are happening on Earth, but eventually (as their connection to Earth dwindles and the living move on) they are left with only their own thoughts and the company of the other two. Near the end of the play, Garcin demands he be let out; at his words the door flies open, however, none of the three will leave. This is due partly to the substantial heat - though the heat seems to be a psychosomatic effect from anxiety triggers - and fear of the unknown, but can be attributed most to Garcin’s desire for validation from Inez that he is not a coward.

It is essentially a four hander, but the part of the Valet is very small. I am hoping to run it for three nights in September and as soon as i have anymore information, i shall post it here.

Very best wishes

With a little under a month to go, Glengarry Glen Ross has had a fair share of problems. Rehearsal space and rehearsal times being one of the issues, add two members of the cast pulling out due to personal reasons and you have a director who at times has felt a little stressed and questioned ‘Is it worth it’?

The answer to that of course is…’Yes it is’. With Louise Roberts and Marianne Sellar stepping in to save the day by replacing the two actors and the cast doing their best to accommodate the rehearsal schedule, this director is happy:) Everyone is working very hard to put 100% into their characters and what they are doing on the stage.

GG is not an easy play, Mamet writes as he thinks, very fast paced and dialogue that overlaps as characters have multiple conversations at the same time. This makes it difficut for the cast, but they are all handling the text exceptionally well.

Costume for the cast is being prepared by Iona Callum, who normally handles all costumes for Shakespeare @ Traquair and is also studying at Qmu. Posters have been designed by Emma Robertson who is also at Qmu and Sarah Pearson has been liasing with theatres to ensure that everything is smooth at that end.

I am aware that i havent played as many drama games and done as many warm ups as i have on previous shows, but we still have a month, and we have the end of act 2 to block, then we are going to start running the show. The guys are almost ready, and i think that GG is going to be a show that we will all be extremely proud of.

Till next time

Tim:)
